Onkyo DX-C390 — 6-Disc CD Carousel Changer, Optical/Coax, 2008+
Onkyo is one of the last companies still building multi-disc CD changers, and this one has been through the bench with fresh belts and a full six-position test. Optical and coaxial digital outputs put a modern DAC one cable away.
Onkyo DX-C390 6-Disc Carousel CD Changer
The DX-C390 exists for people with shelves of CDs who don't want to get up every 45 minutes. Six discs load into a carousel, play straight through, and you can swap five of them while the sixth keeps going. Onkyo has kept this design in production for well over a decade because nothing else quite replaced it. This is a serviced example with new belts, tested across all six positions.
What This Unit Does
- Holds six discs and plays them back to back with no interruption
- Lets you change five discs mid-play, so a listening session never has to stop
- Sends audio out three ways: fixed analog RCA, optical, and coaxial digital. The digital outs matter most, since they let you bypass the internal converter and run into a modern DAC or receiver.
- Reads pressed CDs, home-burned CD-R and CD-RW, and MP3 data discs, which puts hours of music on a single disc
- 40-track programming and six repeat modes for building a sequence and leaving it alone
- Onkyo VLSC and Direct Digital Path circuitry, the latter running a shielded cable straight from the transport to the rear panel instead of through board traces
- RI remote control protocol for linking with other Onkyo components
- Brushed aluminum front panel with a four-mode display dimmer
Condition
Very good. Light handling wear consistent with use, with no damage that affects operation. The chassis and brushed aluminum faceplate present well.

Testing and Service
New belts installed. Tested and confirmed working: loads and plays, reads and indexes all six carousel positions, tracks and skips cleanly, analog RCA output passes signal, both optical and coaxial digital outputs pass signal, display functions, and it reads CD-R, CD-RW, and MP3 discs. Remote tested and functional.
What's Included
- Onkyo DX-C390 changer
- Analog RCA audio cable
- Original Onkyo remote control (remote-included option only)
The power cord is permanently attached to the chassis and is not detachable, so nothing separate is needed to power the unit.
Not included: original box, printed manual, optical or coaxial digital cables. If you select the option without the remote, no remote ships with the unit and front-panel controls handle all core functions.
