Fresh belts, cleaned laser, and a cleaned mode switch — the three things that kill these carousels, all addressed before it went on the shelf. This one also carries Control A1-II, which lets it run in tandem with a Sony MegaStorage changer as a single system.
The Sony CDP-CE545 is a five-disc carousel changer from 2000, built for people who want a full CD collection queued up without babysitting a tray. It sits in the sweet spot of Sony's changer line: real features, full-size chassis, optical digital output, and none of the fragility that plagues the mega changers.
What This Unit Does
- Holds five discs in a rotating carousel, and you can swap four of them while the fifth keeps playing. The music does not stop.
- Control A1-II lets you link it to a Sony MegaStorage changer and operate both from one point, up to 405 discs, with crossfade between the two players.
- Disc Memo stores your own titles for up to 255 CDs. Delete Bank remembers which tracks you want skipped on a given disc. CD Text discs display their titles automatically.
- Optical digital output sends an unconverted digital signal straight to a MiniDisc deck, DAC, or receiver.
- Front-panel jog dial for fast track seeking, plus a headphone jack with variable level.
- Time edit, peak search, and fade are built in for anyone still making cassette or MiniDisc dubs.
- Plays CD-R and CD-RW discs, so burned mixes work.
One useful thing to know: the variable line and headphone output levels are adjusted from the remote only, and the two levels move together. If you plan to use that feature, get the unit with the remote.
Condition
Cosmetic condition is good, roughly 6.5 out of 10. Visible wear consistent with a unit of this age — light scuffs and handling marks on the chassis and faceplate. Black finish. Nothing structurally damaged, all controls present.
