New drive belts, a cleaned laser, and the optical digital output that only the CDC-765 got in this family — a five-disc carousel that's been brought back to working order rather than pulled from a closet and listed as-is.

Yamaha built the CDC-765 at the top of its late-nineties Natural Sound carousel line, and the thing that separates it from the CDC-665 and CDC-565 underneath it is on the back panel. This is the only one of the three that got an optical digital output. That matters now more than it did in 1997: it means you can bypass the internal converters entirely and run the transport into whatever DAC you already own, which turns a five-disc changer into a legitimate source component rather than a convenience box.

Condition

Testing and Service

All functions were tested and confirmed working, including tray operation, carousel rotation, PlayXchange, disc loading and tracking across all five positions, program and random modes, the display, and both analog and optical outputs.

New drive belts have been installed and the laser lens was cleaned. Hardened belts and a dirty laser are the two things that take these changers down, and both have been addressed — the tray and carousel should behave for years rather than months.
