The Harman Kardon PA 2000 does one job extremely well: it adds amplified channels to a system that's run out of them.

Set it up as 4 x 45 watts into 8 ohms to drive two separate speaker pairs, or flip the rear BRIDGE switch for 2 x 100 watts into a single pair. Harman designed it for distributed audio — the output stages are built for long in-wall cable runs, and parallel line-level outputs let you daisy-chain a second amplifier off the same source without a splitter.

How the signal routes: one stereo RCA input feeds both channel pairs, so CH1 and CH2 carry the same signal. Independent VOL 1 and VOL 2 trim controls set the level for each pair separately. That's what makes it ideal for sending one source to two locations at different volumes.

Three ways people put it to work:

• Run two zones off one source. Living room and patio on the same feed, with independent level control from the rear trim knobs or in-wall attenuators.
• Add a surround-back or height pair. Feed it from your receiver's preamp outputs and power the channels your AVR doesn't have.
• Bi-amp a pair of speakers. Bridged for 100 watts per channel, or 45 watts across all four channels split between woofers and tweeters.

Underneath it's a high-current design — 45 amps instantaneous current capability and bandwidth reaching from below 1Hz to 170kHz. That translates to control on bass transients and an unforced top end, even at the end of a long speaker run.

Each channel pair has its own three-position Power Control Mode switch: Music Sense wakes the amp automatically when signal arrives, On runs it continuously, and AC/DC Trigger slaves it to your receiver through the 3–30V trigger jack. Handy when it's living in a closet, a rack, or behind a cabinet where you're not touching the power switch.

At 6 inches tall and rack-width, it stacks or shelves without eating a full component slot.
