WHAT IS A SUBWOOFER?

Subwoofers are a type of loudspeaker that’s designed to deliver the lower frequencies. These “lower frequencies” are typically 20-200 Hz. Reproducing low frequencies is not something a traditional surround sound setup can do, so subwoofers are intended to do the heavy lifting to fill in that gap.

Subwoofers use speaker drivers, or “woofers,” that convert electrical signals from the audio source into soundwaves that you can both hear and feel. The drivers come in different sizes, so you can get an 8-inch subwoofer, a 10-inch, 12-inch, 15-inch, or 16-inch subwoofer. You can also purchase whatever type of subwoofer you need for your specific audio system, including a powered subwoofer, an active subwoofer, and/or a compact subwoofer.
