Sony's CDP-CE215 is a five-disc carousel changer from 1997, built around the idea that you shouldn't have to stop the music to change what's playing. One disc spins while the other four sit exposed on the tray, ready to be swapped out mid-playback. For a home system that runs music all evening, that's a meaningfully different experience than a single-disc player.
What This Unit Does
- Play One / Exchange Four: the carousel lets you pull and replace four discs without interrupting the one currently playing
- 32-step multi-disc programming, so you can build a sequence across all five discs and let it run
- 20-track front-panel display showing what's programmed, what's played, and what's left
- Front-panel jog dial for direct track selection, plus peak-level search for setting levels without guessing
- 5-second fade in and fade out between tracks
- Shuffle, repeat, and normal play modes
Condition
Very good, graded 8 out of 10. Normal handling wear consistent with a deck of this age. No missing controls, and the display reads clearly across all segments.
Testing and Service
The drive belt has been replaced — the single most common failure point on these carousels, and the reason so many surviving units won't cycle properly. All functions were tested and confirmed working: tray open and close, carousel rotation through all five positions, disc loading and playback in every position, disc exchange during playback, programming, and analog output to both channels. The front-panel display is fully functional.
