Sony CDP-CE335 5-Disc CD Changer — Carousel CD Player, Serviced, 1999
This CDP-CE335 has had the drive belts replaced, the laser cleaned, and the mode switch cleaned — the three things that put these late-'90s Sony carousels out of service — plus new faceplate electronics. It is also the only model in its family with remote-adjustable output level, which means it can drive a power amp or powered speakers directly.
Sony built the CDP-CE335 in 1999 as the top of a three-model run that also included the CDP-CE235 and CDP-C591. It is a five-disc carousel changer with Play & Exchange, so four discs can be swapped while the fifth keeps playing — useful if the player lives in a system that runs all evening.
What This Unit Does
- Adjustable line output level from the remote, a feature Sony reserved for this model in the family. Feed a power amp directly, or match this unit's level to other sources in a multi-source system.
- Play & Exchange carousel. Change four discs without stopping playback on the fifth.
- Built for dubbing. Time Edit builds a program that fits a specified tape length, Peak Search finds the loudest passage so you can set record level before you commit, and manual fade in and out keeps tracks from starting or stopping abruptly.
- 32-step programming, shuffle across all discs or within one disc, and repeat modes.
- Disc Check and a 20-track music calendar so you can see what is loaded and what is queued.
- Jog dial track access on the front panel.
Condition
Good, rated 7 out of 10. Visible cosmetic wear consistent with age and use — expect scuffs and handling marks on the chassis and faceplate. Nothing here affects function. Photos show the actual unit.
Testing & Service
Drive belts replaced, laser cleaned, and mode switch cleaned. The faceplate electronics were also replaced, so the display and front panel controls run on fresh hardware rather than twenty-five-year-old parts.
All functions were tested and confirmed working after service: tray open and close, all five disc positions, disc change and skip disc, track access, program, shuffle, repeat, fade, peak search, display and music calendar, and analog output on both channels.
